Broncos are targeting at free agent center Mawae

If the Tennessee Titans do not take action in time to keep Pro Bowl center Kevin Mawae, other teams could make their effort to sign him away. Actually, the Denver Broncos have already expressed their interest in getting the center before the free agency ends.

The Broncos need a center because they lost center Casey Wiegmann to the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency, and though the team is looking to get younger at that position, Mawae is still possible to put on Titans jersey as an unrestricted free agent if the Broncos offer an attractive contract in time.

However, Mawae also has the option to return to the Titans because he could be able to play a depth role if staying with the Titans. At age 39, he is too old to start any new era with a new team. He managed to finish the 2009 season without suffering injuries and was voted to Pro Bowl again, so staying with the Titans before retirement could be a better choice for the 17-year veteran.

Two Broncos will not be with team for the rest of season

The Denver Broncos starting left guard Russ Hochstein and returner Kenny McKinley were done for the season. After both suffered injuries in last week’s game at Philadelphia against the Eagles, they were placed on the injured reserve and will not be available in their team’s NFL jerseys for the season finale.

Broncos Coach Josh McDaniels announced Monday that Hochstein and McKinley will be placed on injured reserve. McKinley hurt his knee on a kickoff return in the first quarter, while Hochstein apparently injured his knee on a play in the second half.

Hochstein got his starting job on Nov. 15 as the team was trying to bolster a struggling offense before a game against the Washington Redskins. The previous starter Ben Hamliton who was supplanted by Hochstein, now have the chance to get his starting job back.

Keeping winning, Colts set even more records

Now the Indianapolis Colts have won 22 consecutive regular-season games and 114 games in a decade, setting new NFL records by beating the Denver Broncos 28-16 on Sunday night.

And the star quarterback wearing No.18 Colts jersey managed to throw four touchdowns but was 20 of 42 for 220 yards, losing his touch after leading the Colts to touchdowns on three of its first four drives. Peyton Manning was not in good condition but the Colts still won over the Broncos, whose receiver Brandon Marshall, however, broke the league’s single-game record with 21 receptions.

The Colts were also 13-0 in 2005 but lost the three of the last four games, including a divisional playoff against the Pittsburgh Steelers. So it is still early to say the team is a must-be winner of this season.

Five-time Pro Bowler DB will join Broncos

Another former New England Patriots player to put on the Denver Broncos jersey thanks to Broncos Coach Josh McDaniels, who used to be an assistant with the Patriots for eight years. According to Ty Law’s agent Kevin Poston, the five-time Pro Bowler has agreed to terms on a deal with the Broncos.

Pending the passing of his physical, Law is expected to sign the deal Saturday, perhaps just in time to take part in the team’s practice while the Broncos are preparing for the home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night.

Picked by the Patriots in first round of 1995, Law helped the Patriots to three Super Bowl titles. After spending 10 seasons in New England, he signed with the New York Jets in 2005. In 2006 and 2007 seasons, Law played for the Kansas City Chiefs and started every game for the team. He joined the Jets again last season after sitting out the first 10 week. Law’s joining Broncos will add another experienced veteran to Denver, where there are already veterans Champ Bailey, Andre’ Goodman, Brian Dawkins and Renaldo Hill.

Broncos head into bye week after having surprising 6-0 start

Following Monday’s 34-23 win over the San Diego Chargers, the Denver Broncos will have their bye week. But they are hesitant to put football on the back burner for a weekend after having a surprising 6-0 start as they are mindful of keeping their momentum after building a 3 1/2 -game lead over the Chargers in the AFC West.

Broncos were viewed as nothing more than an entertaining soap opera when new coach Josh McDaniels started his tenure in Denver by quarreling with his Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler, who was now playing in the Chicago Bears jersey. Before long the coach suspended talented receiver Brandon Marshall for insubordination in training camp. But now the coach proves to people his wisdom with moving the Broncos to 6-0, for the fifth time in franchise history.

Quarterback Kyle Orton, veteran safety Brian Dawkins and special teams’ wide receiver Eddie Royal-all the player McDaniels has kept in the team have been proved no less brilliant than those the coach has given up. And the team will not allow complacency to creep in during the off week for they understand there is still a long way to go.

Marshall spoke to the media for the first time since Aug. 26

After the two-week team suspension, the Denver Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall talked to the media for the first time since his on-field hissy fit at practice Aug. 26, for which he was punished with the suspension.

However, the talk did not include topics about the suspension or personal situation or relationship with the franchise and teammates. The receiver just said that he was preparing to face the Cleveland Browns this weekend. And in order to shorten the talk and avoid being fined for non-cooperation with the media as well, Marshall chose to have the interview at the end of locker room. The entire session lasted all of 100 seconds.

Although the Broncos are still in need of the enigmatic wide receiver in order reach full potential, Marshall should realize that his desires for a new contract should be backed up by on-field results.

Broncos might trade WR Marshall to Jets

After the Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall was suspended last week by Coach Josh McDaniels for the rest of the preseason, a lot of people began to guess whether he would have a chance to wear another team's nfl jersey and reports came out to say that the Pro Bowl receiver might be traded to New York Jets.

It has been well known that Marshall is unhappy with the Broncos ant their coach McDaniels. He has been asking for a new contract but was refused, and his request for a trade received no feedback from the front office. McDaniels suspended him for conduct detrimental to the team after the receiver had insubordinate actions during a practice.

The reports said that the Broncos might trade Marshall to the Jets for a first-round draft pick, which the Jets will unlikely offer. As one of the best receiver’s in the NFL, Marshall surely could help a team a lot at wide receiver, but the Jets already have their own receiver group, with Jerricho Cotchery as the team’s top wide receiver, and Chansi Stuckey competing with David Clowney for a backup spot.

Broncos suspended Pro Bowl WR Marshall for the rest of preseason

It seems that the Denver Broncos neither want to lose Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall nor want to tolerate his “detrimental” conduct any more. So they took measure of suspension.

Broncos Coach Josh McDaniels informed Marshall on Friday that the team will suspend him for the rest of the preseason and expect him to be back by Sept. 6th to prepare for season opener on Sept. 13th. But will that work for the quarterback who has been demanding a trade and asking for a new contract? I am not so sure, but the team may just think that they need to do something to stop being offended.

Marshall made some boorish antics during Wednesday practice, walking while his teammates ran, punting a ball away instead of handing it to a ball boy and swatting a pass thrown to him. All of the actions were caught on video and broadcast by KMGH-TV. And he explained to reporters the next day that he was just feeling frustrated but not trying to force a trade through insubordination.

Marshall was the second Broncos player who was unhappy with McDaniels since the former New England offensive coordinator was hired in January to succeed the fired Mike Shanahan. The first one was Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler. Cutler had a quarrel with McDaniels after he knew that the new coach planned to trade him to bring his former New England quarterback, Matt Cassell. Afterwards, Cutler forced a trade to the Chicago Bears, who the Broncos will play against on Sunday night.
