Steelers safety Polamalu practiced but may not play Sunday

The Pittsburgh Steelers star safety finally showed some possibility of returning as he practiced in a limited role Wednesday, for the first time in seven weeks. But it still seemed unlikely that he would be able to put on his Steelers jersey to play this Sunday’s season finale against the Miami Dolphins.

Polamalu has missed 10 full games and most of two others with a pair of left knee injuries. He hasn’t played since Nov. 15 when the Steelers were playing against the Cincinnati Bengals because of a sprained posterior cruciate ligament.

Calling his current layoff “frustrating”, Polamalu said only a few days of practice is not enough for him to get fully prepared for a full game since he had missed such a long time. What is more, his knee is still healing and has not allowed him to run at close to full speed. While practicing, the safety still appeared tentative.

Steelers safety Polamalu is likely to miss against Chiefs

The Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu remains questionable for this Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and it is very likely that he will miss the game while in need of time to take care of his injured left knee.

It is the second time for this season he injured the left knee, and the first injury caused him to miss the Steelers’ second through fifth games. The five-time Pro Bowl player suffered the second injury during last Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals while tackling running back Cedric Benson. He strained a posterior cruciate ligament, a less serious injury than his first one which was a medial collateral ligament sprain.

But it is still serious enough to keep the safety out of at least one game as the posterior cruciate ligament teams with the anterior cruciate ligament to secure the knee. It is better either for Polamalu or the team to have the safety rest for a week and return in his No. 43 Steelers jersey for the AFC North game against the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 29.

Steelers safety Polamalu reinjured left knee and left Sunday game

The Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu did not finish Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals because of injury on left knee. While his teammates were facing 18-12 loss to the Bengals, he was undergoing tests on his reinjured knee without wearing his NO.43 Steelers jersey.

A previous injury on the same knee had caused Polamalu to miss four games before he returned on Oct. 18 to play against the Cleveland Browns. Hopefully this time the injury is less serious and won’t hold him out for long, as he was escorted to the locker room by physician James Bradley instead of a team trainer.

The five-time Pro Bowl player was injured while tackling Cedric Benson during Cincinnati’s opening possession. Flexing his knee after coming off the field, Polamalu left for the locker room shortly later. Undergoing an MRI exam while the game was ending, the safety even did not watch how his team Sunday’s game.

Steelers safety Polamalu plans to play against Vikings after returning to practice

After sitting out two days to rest his still-healing left knee, the Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu has returned to practice Friday and is planning to play in his No. 43 Steelers jersey against the unbeaten Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

The five-time Pro Bowl safety tore the medial collateral ligament in his left knee on Sept. 10 when the Steelers were playing against the Tennessee Titans. Despite that he needed an additional week or two off to help the knee recover faster, he returned last Sunday and made an interception against the Cleveland Browns.

After missing practice Wednesday and Thursday, Polamalu practiced Friday with a knee brace, which the safety plans to wear on Sunday. Maybe he has learnt from the Cleveland game, before which he discarded the brace after going through pregame warm-ups, saying it restricted his running.
